Forest Hills Cosmetic Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are cosmetic restorations that hide the teeth behind them. Unlike crowns, which cover your entire tooth, veneers are bonded to the front and slightly overlap the edges. When you smile, all you’ll see is the look of brand new, white teeth.

Our Forest Hills cosmetic dentist, Dr. Gregory Mark, recommends veneers when your teeth are otherwise healthy, but you want to take steps to improve the way your smile looks overall. Some people even refer to veneers as “instant braces” because of their ability to make your smile look straight in just a couple of appointments.

Should I Get Dental Veneers?

We recommend dental veneers for people with healthy teeth and gums, but who are unhappy with the appearance of their smile. Veneers are great for correcting aesthetic issues.

Choosing to get dental veneers is typically an individual decision that people make for a variety of reasons. Some do it because they’re about to embark on a new career and want to make a great first impression when they’re around other people. Others are recent retirees, who have always wanted beautiful teeth. And then there are those who feel too embarrassed to smile, even among their family and friends.

There’s no wrong or right reason for wanting to get dental veneers. But if you’re hoping for a relatively fast and dramatic way to enhance your smile’s appearance, then they’re a great option worth considering.

Dr. Mark will want to address any dental health issues first, however. Such as active tooth decay or gum disease. We don’t want to cover an unhealthy tooth, allowing infection to harbor underneath. A healthy foundation is essential!

Porcelain Veneers in Forest Hills

When you’re looking for the most dramatic smile makeover possible, porcelain dental veneers are your treatment of choice.

Porcelain is both durable and extremely aesthetic. It mimics the look and feel of natural tooth enamel, so that your results don’t just look beautiful; they also look like a real smile.

Getting porcelain veneers involves a two-part process and minimally invasive preparation procedure. Our Forest Hills dentist will need to slightly reduce the width of your enamel, so that when the porcelain is bonded over it, your teeth don’t look or feel bulky.

At your prep appointment, we’ll take an impression of your teeth and send the models to our lab, along with directions on how we want your new veneers to look. You can even specify the exact shape, contour, and color of your choice! Although this visit is fairly simple, we’ll want to use a bit of local anesthetic to make sure you feel comfortable from start to finish. We’ll also place some temporary veneers over your teeth to prevent any sensitivity.

About two weeks later, you’ll come back for Dr. Mark to try your porcelain veneers in. We want you to be absolutely thrilled with the way that they look. If there are any adjustments needed, we’ll make those at that time. Then, we’ll use a special bonding agent to adhere each veneer permanently to its respective toot

No-Prep Veneer Alternatives

If for any reason you think you may want to one day have your veneers removed, or you don’t want to get them updated after several years, then a no-prep option may be your best choice.

No-prep/prepless veneers like Lumineers are thinner restorations that we bond to the front of your natural teeth. There’s no reduction needed. So, if for some reason a veneer ever breaks because of an accident, you won’t need to get it replaced right away.

Lumineers and no-prep veneers are also more affordable than porcelain veneers, since they’re made of a slightly different material and not created using the same processes.

Composite (“Same Day”) Veneers

Unlike other types of dental veneers that are made by an offsite lab, our composite veneers are designed right here in our office. The process is similar to getting a white filling, where we match the composite material to your adjacent teeth and shape it over the one that needs to be adjusted.

Composite veneers are fast and affordable for correcting one or two problematic teeth. But since they’re not as durable or translucent as porcelain, our Forest Hills cosmetic dentist doesn’t recommend getting them placed on multiple teeth.

Dental Veneer Care and Maintenance

Even though veneers cover the front of your teeth, there’s still opportunity for plaque buildup to accumulate around them. It’s important that you schedule regular checkups and floss around your teeth each day. Use a gentle, non-abrasive toothpaste to clean your veneers and teeth twice per day.

Since getting veneers is a significant investment, we recommend getting a night guard made to wear while you sleep. This protective device will prevent any chipping or wear to your veneers and teeth, which is caused by clenching and grinding.

How Much do Veneers Cost?

The two biggest variables when it comes to the price of dental veneers are 1) the type of veneers that you’re getting, and 2) the number of veneers that you get.

On average, most people get about six veneers across their upper front teeth. People with wider smiles need more. Whereas someone with only one troublesome tooth might only need a single same-day veneer.

During your smile consultation, Dr. Mark will discuss the different types of veneers as they relate to your unique situation, and how many he would recommend getting. From there, we’ll draw up a care plan that itemizes the costs involved, so you know exactly what to expect. If you want to get started on your smile makeover right away, we offer flexible 0% and low-interest financing through CareCredit!
